1 11 1 Kings 015 Asa
001- Now in the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam the son of Nebat reigned Abijam over Judah.
002- Three years reigned he in Jerusalem. and his mother's name was Maachah, the daughter of Abishalom.
003- And he walked in all the sins of his father, which he had done before him: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as the heart of David his father.
004- Nevertheless for David's sake did the LORD his God give him a lamp in Jerusalem, to set up his son after him, and to establish Jerusalem:
005- Because David did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, and turned not aside from any thing that he commanded him all the days of his life, save only in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.
006- And there was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam all the days of his life.
007- Now the rest of the acts of Abijam, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? And there was war between Abijam and Jeroboam.
008- And Abijam slept with his fathers; and they buried him in the city of David: and Asa his son reigned in his stead.
009- And in the twentieth year of Jeroboam king of Israel reigned Asa over Judah.
010- And forty and one years reigned he in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Maachah, the daughter of Abishalom.
011- And Asa did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, as did David his father.
012- And he took away the sodomites out of the land, and removed all the idols that his fathers had made.
013- And also Maachah his mother, even her he removed from being queen, because she had made an idol in a grove; and Asa destroyed her idol, and burnt it by the brook Kidron.
014- But the high places were not removed: nevertheless Asa's heart was perfect with the LORD all his days.
015- And he brought in the things which his father had dedicated, and the things which himself had dedicated, into the house of the LORD, silver, and gold, and vessels.
016- And there was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel all their days.
017- And Baasha king of Israel went up against Judah, and built Ramah, that he might not suffer any to go out or come in to Asa king of Judah.
018- Then Asa took all the silver and the gold that were left in the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king's house, and delivered them into the hand of his servants: and king Asa sent them to Benhadad, the son of Tabrimon, the son of Hezion, king of Syria, that dwelt at Damascus, saying,
019- There is a league between me and thee, and between my father and thy father: behold, I have sent unto thee a present of silver and gold; come and break thy league with Baasha king of Israel, that he may depart from me.
020- So Benhadad hearkened unto king Asa, and sent the captains of the hosts which he had against the cities of Israel, and smote Ijon, and Dan, and Abelbethmaachah, and all Cinneroth, with all the land of Naphtali.
021- And it came to pass, when Baasha heard thereof, that he left off building of Ramah, and dwelt in Tirzah.
022- Then king Asa made a proclamation throughout all Judah; none was exempted: and they took away the stones of Ramah, and the timber thereof, wherewith Baasha had builded; and king Asa built with them Geba of Benjamin, and Mizpah.
023- The rest of all the acts of Asa, and all his might, and all that he did, and the cities which he built, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? Nevertheless in the time of his old age he was diseased in his feet.
024- And Asa slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father: and Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his stead.
025- And Nadab the son of Jeroboam began to reign over Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah, and reigned over Israel two years.
026- And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the way of his father, and in his sin wherewith he made Israel to sin.
027- And Baasha the son of Ahijah, of the house of Issachar, conspired against him; and Baasha smote him at Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines; for Nadab and all Israel laid siege to Gibbethon.
028- Even in the third year of Asa king of Judah did Baasha slay him, and reigned in his stead.
029- And it came to pass, when he reigned, that he smote all the house of Jeroboam; he left not to Jeroboam any that breathed, until he had destroyed him, according unto the saying of the LORD, which he spake by his servant Ahijah the Shilonite:
030- Because of the sins of Jeroboam which he sinned, and which he made Israel sin, by his provocation wherewith he provoked the LORD God of Israel to anger.
031- Now the rest of the acts of Nadab, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
032- And there was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel all their days.
033- In the third year of Asa king of Judah began Baasha the son of Ahijah to reign over all Israel in Tirzah, twenty and four years.
034- And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the way of Jeroboam, and in his sin wherewith he made Israel to sin.
2 11 1 Kings 016 Asa
001- Then the word of the LORD came to Jehu the son of Hanani against Baasha, saying,
002- Forasmuch as I exalted thee out of the dust, and made thee prince over my people Israel; and thou hast walked in the way of Jeroboam, and hast made my people Israel to sin, to provoke me to anger with their sins;
003- Behold, I will take away the posterity of Baasha, and the posterity of his house; and will make thy house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
004- Him that dieth of Baasha in the city shall the dogs eat; and him that dieth of his in the fields shall the fowls of the air eat.
005- Now the rest of the acts of Baasha, and what he did, and his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
006- So Baasha slept with his fathers, and was buried in Tirzah: and Elah his son reigned in his stead.
007- And also by the hand of the prophet Jehu the son of Hanani came the word of the LORD against Baasha, and against his house, even for all the evil that he did in the sight of the LORD, in provoking him to anger with the work of his hands, in being like the house of Jeroboam; and because he killed him.
008- In the twenty and sixth year of Asa king of Judah began Elah the son of Baasha to reign over Israel in Tirzah, two years.
009- And his servant Zimri, captain of half his chariots, conspired against him, as he was in Tirzah, drinking himself drunk in the house of Arza steward of his house in Tirzah.
010- And Zimri went in and smote him, and killed him, in the twenty and seventh year of Asa king of Judah, and reigned in his stead.
011- And it came to pass, when he began to reign, as soon as he sat on his throne, that he slew all the house of Baasha: he left him not one that pisseth against a wall, neither of his kinsfolk, nor of his friends.
012- Thus did Zimri destroy all the house of Baasha, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake against Baasha by Jehu the prophet.
013- For all the sins of Baasha, and the sins of Elah his son, by which they sinned, and by which they made Israel to sin, in provoking the LORD God of Israel to anger with their vanities.
014- Now the rest of the acts of Elah, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
015- In the twenty and seventh year of Asa king of Judah did Zimri reign seven days in Tirzah. And the people were encamped against Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines.
016- And the people that were encamped heard say, Zimri hath conspired, and hath also slain the king: wherefore all Israel made Omri, the captain of the host, king over Israel that day in the camp.
017- And Omri went up from Gibbethon, and all Israel with him, and they besieged Tirzah.
018- And it came to pass, when Zimri saw that the city was taken, that he went into the palace of the king's house, and burnt the king's house over him with fire, and died.
019- For his sins which he sinned in doing evil in the sight of the LORD, in walking in the way of Jeroboam, and in his sin which he did, to make Israel to sin.
020- Now the rest of the acts of Zimri, and his treason that he wrought, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
021- Then were the people of Israel divided into two parts: half of the people followed Tibni the son of Ginath, to make him king; and half followed Omri.
022- But the people that followed Omri prevailed against the people that followed Tibni the son of Ginath: so Tibni died, and Omri reigned.
023- In the thirty and first year of Asa king of Judah began Omri to reign over Israel, twelve years: six years reigned he in Tirzah.
024- And he bought the hill Samaria of Shemer for two talents of silver, and built on the hill, and called the name of the city which he built, after the name of Shemer, owner of the hill, Samaria.
025- But Omri wrought evil in the eyes of the LORD, and did worse than all that were before him.
026- For he walked in all the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and in his sin wherewith he made Israel to sin, to provoke the LORD God of Israel to anger with their vanities.
027- Now the rest of the acts of Omri which he did, and his might that he showed, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
028- So Omri slept with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria: and Ahab his son reigned in his stead.
029- And in the thirty and eighth year of Asa king of Judah began Ahab the son of Omri to reign over Israel: and Ahab the son of Omri reigned over Israel in Samaria twenty and two years.
030- And Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the LORD above all that were before him.
031- And it came to pass, as if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he took to wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Zidonians, and went and served Baal, and worshipped him.
032- And he reared up an altar for Baal in the house of Baal, which he had built in Samaria.
033- And Ahab made a grove; and Ahab did more to provoke the LORD God of Israel to anger than all the kings of Israel that were before him.
034- In his days did Hiel the Bethelite build Jericho: he laid the foundation thereof in Abiram his firstborn, and set up the gates thereof in his youngest son Segub, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Joshua the son of Nun.
3 11 1 Kings 020 Asa
001- And Benhadad the king of Syria gathered all his host together: and there were thirty and two kings with him, and horses, and chariots; and he went up and besieged Samaria, and warred against it.
002- And he sent messengers to Ahab king of Israel into the city, and said unto him, Thus saith Benhadad,
003- Thy silver and thy gold is mine; thy wives also and thy children, even the goodliest, are mine.
004- And the king of Israel answered and said, My lord, O king, according to thy saying, I am thine, and all that I have.
005- And the messengers came again, and said, Thus speaketh Benhadad, saying, Although I have sent unto thee, saying, Thou shalt deliver me thy silver, and thy gold, and thy wives, and thy children;
006- Yet I will send my servants unto thee to morrow about this time, and they shall search thine house, and the houses of thy servants; and it shall be, that whatsoever is pleasant in thine eyes, they shall put it in their hand, and take it away.
007- Then the king of Israel called all the elders of the land, and said, Mark, I pray you, and see how this man seeketh mischief: for he sent unto me for my wives, and for my children, and for my silver, and for my gold; and I denied him not.
008- And all the elders and all the people said unto him, Hearken not unto him, nor consent.
009- Wherefore he said unto the messengers of Benhadad, Tell my lord the king, All that thou didst send for to thy servant at the first I will do: but this thing I may not do. And the messengers departed, and brought him word again.
010- And Benhadad sent unto him, and said, The gods do so unto me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria shall suffice for handfuls for all the people that follow me.
011- And the king of Israel answered and said, Tell him, Let not him that girdeth on his harness boast himself as he that putteth it off.
012- And it came to pass, when Ben-hadad heard this message, as he was drinking, he and the kings in the pavilions, that he said unto his servants, Set yourselves in array. And they set themselves in array against the city.
013- And, behold, there came a prophet unto Ahab king of Israel, saying, Thus saith the LORD, Hast thou seen all this great multitude? behold, I will deliver it into thine hand this day; and thou shalt know that I am the LORD.
014- And Ahab said, By whom? And he said, Thus saith the LORD, Even by the young men of the princes of the provinces. Then he said, Who shall order the battle? And he answered, Thou.
015- Then he numbered the young men of the princes of the provinces, and they were two hundred and thirty two: and after them he numbered all the people, even all the children of Israel, being seven thousand.
016- And they went out at noon. But Benhadad was drinking himself drunk in the pavilions, he and the kings, the thirty and two kings that helped him.
017- And the young men of the princes of the provinces went out first; and Benhadad sent out, and they told him, saying, There are men come out of Samaria.
018- And he said, Whether they be come out for peace, take them alive; or whether they be come out for war, take them alive.
019- So these young men of the princes of the provinces came out of the city, and the army which followed them.
020- And they slew every one his man: and the Syrians fled; and Israel pursued them: and Benhadad the king of Syria escaped on an horse with the horsemen.
021- And the king of Israel went out, and smote the horses and chariots, and slew the Syrians with a great slaughter.
022- And the prophet came to the king of Israel, and said unto him, Go, strengthen thyself, and mark, and see what thou doest: for at the return of the year the king of Syria will come up against thee.
023- And the servants of the king of Syria said unto him, Their gods are gods of the hills; therefore they were stronger than we; but let us fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they.
024- And do this thing, Take the kings away, every man out of his place, and put captains in their rooms:
025- And number thee an army, like the army that thou hast lost, horse for horse, and chariot for chariot: and we will fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they. And he hearkened unto their voice, and did so.
026- And it came to pass at the return of the year, that Benhadad numbered the Syrians, and went up to Aphek, to fight against Israel.
027- And the children of Israel were numbered, and were all present, and went against them: and the children of Israel pitched before them like two little flocks of kids; but the Syrians filled the country.
028- And there came a man of God, and spake unto the king of Israel, and said, Thus saith the LORD, Because the Syrians have said, The LORD is God of the hills, but he is not God of the valleys, therefore will I deliver all this great multitude into thine hand, and ye shall know that I am the LORD.
029- And they pitched one over against the other seven days. And so it was, that in the seventh day the battle was joined: and the children of Israel slew of the Syrians an hundred thousand footmen in one day.
030- But the rest fled to Aphek, into the city; and there a wall fell upon twenty and seven thousand of the men that were left. And Benhadad fled, and came into the city, into an inner chamber.
031- And his servants said unto him, Behold now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are merciful kings: let us, I pray thee, put sackcloth on our loins, and ropes upon our heads, and go out to the king of Israel: peradventure he will save thy life.
032- So they girded sackcloth on their loins, and put ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, Thy servant Benhadad saith, I pray thee, let me live. And he said, Is he yet alive? he is my brother.
033- Now the men did diligently observe whether any thing would come from him, and did hastily catch it: and they said, Thy brother Benhadad. Then he said, Go ye, bring him. Then Benhadad came forth to him; and he caused him to come up into the chariot.
034- And Ben-hadad said unto him, The cities, which my father took from thy father, I will restore; and thou shalt make streets for thee in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria. Then said Ahab, I will send thee away with this covenant. So he made a covenant with him, and sent him away.
035- And a certain man of the sons of the prophets said unto his neighbor in the word of the LORD, Smite me, I pray thee. And the man refused to smite him.
036- Then said he unto him, Because thou hast not obeyed the voice of the LORD, behold, as soon as thou art departed from me, a lion shall slay thee. And as soon as he was departed from him, a lion found him, and slew him.
037- Then he found another man, and said, Smite me, I pray thee. And the man smote him, so that in smiting he wounded him.
038- So the prophet departed, and waited for the king by the way, and disguised himself with ashes upon his face.
039- And as the king passed by, he cried unto the king: and he said, Thy servant went out into the midst of the battle; and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man unto me, and said, Keep this man: if by any means he be missing, then shall thy life be for his life, or else thou shalt pay a talent of silver.
040- And as thy servant was busy here and there, he was gone. And the king of Israel said unto him, So shall thy judgment be; thyself hast decided it.
041- And he hasted, and took the ashes away from his face; and the king of Israel discerned him that he was of the prophets.
042- And he said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Because thou hast let go out of thy hand a man whom I appointed to utter destruction, therefore thy life shall go for his life, and thy people for his people.
043- And the king of Israel went to his house heavy and displeased, and came to Samaria.
4 11 1 Kings 022 Asa
001- And they continued three years without war between Syria and Israel.
002- And it came to pass in the third year, that Jehoshaphat the king of Judah came down to the king of Israel.
003- And the king of Israel said unto his servants, Know ye that Ramoth in Gilead is ours, and we be still, and take it not out of the hand of the king of Syria?
004- And he said unto Jehoshaphat, Wilt thou go with me to battle to Ramothgilead? And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, I am as thou art, my people as thy people, my horses as thy horses.
005- And Jehoshaphat said unto the king of Israel, Enquire, I pray thee, at the word of the LORD to day.
006- Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said unto them, Shall I go against Ramothgilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, Go up; for the LORD shall deliver it into the hand of the king.
007- And Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the LORD besides, that we might enquire of him?
008- And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man, Micaiah the son of Imlah, by whom we may enquire of the LORD: but I hate him; for he doth not prophesy good concerning me, but evil. And Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so.
009- Then the king of Israel called an officer, and said, Hasten hither Micaiah the son of Imlah.
010- And the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah sat each on his throne, having put on their robes, in a void place in the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets prophesied before them.
011- And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made him horns of iron: and he said, Thus saith the LORD, With these shalt thou push the Syrians, until thou have consumed them.
012- And all the prophets prophesied so, saying, Go up to Ramothgilead, and prosper: for the LORD shall deliver it into the king's hand.
013- And the messenger that was gone to call Micaiah spake unto him, saying, Behold now, the words of the prophets declare good unto the king with one mouth: let thy word, I pray thee, be like the word of one of them, and speak that which is good.
014- And Micaiah said, As the LORD liveth, what the LORD saith unto me, that will I speak.
015- So he came to the king. And the king said unto him, Micaiah, shall we go against Ramothgilead to battle, or shall we forbear? And he answered him, Go, and prosper: for the LORD shall deliver it into the hand of the king.
016- And the king said unto him, How many times shall I adjure thee that thou tell me nothing but that which is true in the name of the LORD?
017- And he said, I saw all Israel scattered upon the hills, as sheep that have not a shepherd: and the LORD said, These have no master: let them return every man to his house in peace.
018- And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, Did I not tell thee that he would prophesy no good concerning me, but evil?
019- And he said, Hear thou therefore the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left.
020- And the LORD said, Who shall persuade Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramothgilead? And one said on this manner, and another said on that manner.
021- And there came forth a spirit, and stood before the LORD, and said, I will persuade him.
022- And the LORD said unto him, Wherewith? And he said, I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Thou shalt persuade him, and prevail also: go forth, and do so.
023- Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil concerning thee.
024- But Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah went near, and smote Micaiah on the cheek, and said, Which way went the Spirit of the LORD from me to speak unto thee?
025- And Micaiah said, Behold, thou shalt see in that day, when thou shalt go into an inner chamber to hide thyself.
026- And the king of Israel said, Take Micaiah, and carry him back unto Amon the governor of the city, and to Joash the king's son;
027- And say, Thus saith the king, Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I come in peace.
028- And Micaiah said, If thou return at all in peace, the LORD hath not spoken by me. And he said, Hearken, O people, every one of you.
029- So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramothgilead.
030- And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, I will disguise myself, and enter into the battle; but put thou on thy robes. And the king of Israel disguised himself, and went into the battle.
031- But the king of Syria commanded his thirty and two captains that had rule over his chariots, saying, Fight neither with small nor great, save only with the king of Israel.
032- And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, Surely it is the king of Israel. And they turned aside to fight against him: and Jehoshaphat cried out.
033- And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots perceived that it was not the king of Israel, that they turned back from pursuing him.
034- And a certain man drew a bow at a venture, and smote the king of Israel between the joints of the harness: wherefore he said unto the driver of his chariot, Turn thine hand, and carry me out of the host; for I am wounded.
035- And the battle increased that day: and the king was stayed up in his chariot against the Syrians, and died at even: and the blood ran out of the wound into the midst of the chariot.
036- And there went a proclamation throughout the host about the going down of the sun, saying, Every man to his city, and every man to his own country.
037- So the king died, and was brought to Samaria; and they buried the king in Samaria.
038- And one washed the chariot in the pool of Samaria; and the dogs licked up his blood; and they washed his armor; according unto the word of the LORD which he spake.
039- Now the rest of the acts of Ahab, and all that he did, and the ivory house which he made, and all the cities that he built, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
040- So Ahab slept with his fathers; and Ahaziah his son reigned in his stead.
041- And Jehoshaphat the son of Asa began to reign over Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel.
042- Jehoshaphat was thirty and five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.
043- And he walked in all the ways of Asa his father; he turned not aside from it, doing that which was right in the eyes of the LORD: nevertheless the high places were not taken away; for the people offered and burnt incense yet in the high places.
044- And Jehoshaphat made peace with the king of Israel.
045- Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, and his might that he showed, and how he warred, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
046- And the remnant of the sodomites, which remained in the days of his father Asa, he took out of the land.
047- There was then no king in Edom: a deputy was king.
048- Jehoshaphat made ships of Tharshish to go to Ophir for gold: but they went not; for the ships were broken at Eziongeber.
049- Then said Ahaziah the son of Ahab unto Jehoshaphat, Let my servants go with thy servants in the ships. But Jehoshaphat would not.
050- And Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father: and Jehoram his son reigned in his stead.
28 13 1 Chronicles 003 Asa
001- Now these were the sons of David, which were born unto him in Hebron; the firstborn Amnon, of Ahinoam the Jezreelitess; the second Daniel, of Abigail the Carmelitess:

014- Amon his son, Josiah his son.
015- And the sons of Josiah were, the firstborn Johanan, the second Jehoiakim, the third Zedekiah, the fourth Shallum.
016- And the sons of Jehoiakim: Jeconiah his son, Zedekiah his son.
017- And the sons of Jeconiah; Assir, Salathiel his son,

023- And the sons of Neariah; Elioenai, and Hezekiah, and Azrikam, three.
024- And the sons of Elioenai were, Hodaiah, and Eliashib, and Pelaiah, and Akkub, and Johanan, and Dalaiah, and Anani, seven.
33 13 1 Chronicles 009 Asa
001- So all Israel were reckoned by genealogies; and, behold, they were written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah, who were carried away to Babylon for their transgression.
002- Now the first inhabitants that dwelt in their possessions in their cities were, the Israelites, the priests, Levites, and the Nethinims.
003- And in Jerusalem dwelt of the children of Judah, and of the children of Benjamin, and of the children of Ephraim, and Manasseh;
004- Uthai the son of Ammihud, the son of Omri, the son of Imri, the son of Bani, of the children of Pharez the son of Judah.
005- And of the Shilonites; Asaiah the firstborn, and his sons.
006- And of the sons of Zerah; Jeuel, and their brethren, six hundred and ninety.
007- And of the sons of Benjamin; Sallu the son of Meshullam, the son of Hodaviah, the son of Hasenuah,
008- And Ibneiah the son of Jeroham, and Elah the son of Uzzi, the son of Michri, and Meshullam the son of Shephathiah, the son of Reuel, the son of Ibnijah;
009- And their brethren, according to their generations, nine hundred and fifty and six. All these men were chief of the fathers in the house of their fathers.
010- And of the priests; Jedaiah, and Jehoiarib, and Jachin,
011- And Azariah the son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub, the ruler of the house of God;
012- And Adaiah the son of Jeroham, the son of Pashur, the son of Malchijah, and Maasiai the son of Adiel, the son of Jahzerah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Meshillemith, the son of Immer;
013- And their brethren, heads of the house of their fathers, a thousand and seven hundred and threescore; very able men for the work of the service of the house of God.
014- And of the Levites; Shemaiah the son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, of the sons of Merari;
015- And Bakbakkar, Heresh, and Galal, and Mattaniah the son of Micah, the son of Zichri, the son of Asaph;
016- And Obadiah the son of Shemaiah, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun, and Berechiah the son of Asa, the son of Elkanah, that dwelt in the villages of the Netophathites.
017- And the porters were, Shallum, and Akkub, and Talmon, and Ahiman, and their brethren: Shallum was the chief;
018- Who hitherto waited in the king's gate eastward: they were porters in the companies of the children of Levi.
019- And Shallum the son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, and his brethren, of the house of his father, the Korahites, were over the work of the service, keepers of the gates of the tabernacle: and their fathers, being over the host of the LORD, were keepers of the entry.
020- And Phinehas the son of Eleazar was the ruler over them in time past, and the LORD was with him.
021- And Zechariah the son of Meshelemiah was porter of the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
022- All these which were chosen to be porters in the gates were two hundred and twelve. These were reckoned by their genealogy in their villages, whom David and Samuel the seer did ordain in their set office.
023- So they and their children had the oversight of the gates of the house of the LORD, namely, the house of the tabernacle, by wards.
024- In four quarters were the porters, toward the east, west, north, and south.
025- And their brethren, which were in their villages, were to come after seven days from time to time with them.
026- For these Levites, the four chief porters, were in their set office, and were over the chambers and treasuries of the house of God.
027- And they lodged round about the house of God, because the charge was upon them, and the opening thereof every morning pertained to them.
028- And certain of them had the charge of the ministering vessels, that they should bring them in and out by tale.
029- Some of them also were appointed to oversee the vessels, and all the instruments of the sanctuary, and the fine flour, and the wine, and the oil, and the frankincense, and the spices.
030- And some of the sons of the priests made the ointment of the spices.
031- And Mattithiah, one of the Levites, who was the firstborn of Shallum the Korahite, had the set office over the things that were made in the pans.
032- And other of their brethren, of the sons of the Kohathites, were over the shewbread, to prepare it every sabbath.
033- And these are the singers, chief of the fathers of the Levites, who remaining in the chambers were free: for they were employed in that work day and night.
034- These chief fathers of the Levites were chief throughout their generations; these dwelt at Jerusalem.
035- And in Gibeon dwelt the father of Gibeon, Jehiel, whose wife's name was Maachah:
036- And his firstborn son Abdon, then Zur, and Kish, and Baal, and Ner, and Nadab.
037- And Gedor, and Ahio, and Zechariah, and Mikloth.
038- And Mikloth begat Shimeam. And they also dwelt with their brethren at Jerusalem, over against their brethren.
039- And Ner begat Kish; and Kish begat Saul; and Saul begat Jonathan, and Malchishua, and Abinadab, and Eshbaal.
040- And the son of Jonathan was Meribbaal: and Meribbaal begat Micah.
041- And the sons of Micah were, Pithon, and Melech, and Tahrea, and Ahaz.
042- And Ahaz begat Jarah; and Jarah begat Alemeth, and Azmaveth, and Zimri; and Zimri begat Moza;
043- And Moza begat Binea; and Rephaiah his son, Eleasah his son, Azel his son.
044- And Azel had six sons, whose names are these, Azrikam, Bocheru, and Ishmael, and Sheariah, and Obadiah, and Hanan: these were the sons of Azel.
42 14 2 Chronicles 014 Asa
001- So Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David: and Asa his son reigned in his stead. In his days the land was quiet ten years.
002- And Asa did that which was good and right in the eyes of the LORD his God:
003- For he took away the altars of the strange gods, and the high places, and brake down the images, and cut down the groves:
004- And commanded Judah to seek the LORD God of their fathers, and to do the law and the commandment.
005- Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the images: and the kingdom was quiet before him.
006- And he built fenced cities in Judah: for the land had rest, and he had no war in those years; because the LORD had given him rest.
007- Therefore he said unto Judah, Let us build these cities, and make about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars, while the land is yet before us; because we have sought the LORD our God, we have sought him, and he hath given us rest on every side. So they built and prospered.
008- And Asa had an army of men that bare targets and spears, out of Judah three hundred thousand; and out of Benjamin, that bare shields and drew bows, two hundred and fourscore thousand: all these were mighty men of valor.
009- And there came out against them Zerah the Ethiopian with an host of a thousand thousand, and three hundred chariots; and came unto Mareshah.
010- Then Asa went out against him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.
011- And Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let no man prevail against thee.
012- So the LORD smote the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.
013- And Asa and the people that were with him pursued them unto Gerar: and the Ethiopians were overthrown, that they could not recover themselves; for they were destroyed before the LORD, and before his host; and they carried away very much spoil.
014- And they smote all the cities round about Gerar; for the fear of the LORD came upon them: and they spoiled all the cities; for there was exceeding much spoil in them.
015- They smote also the tents of cattle, and carried away sheep and camels in abundance, and returned to Jerusalem.
43 14 2 Chronicles 015 Asa
001- And the Spirit of God came upon Azariah the son of Oded:
002- And he went out to meet Asa, and said unto him, Hear ye me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin; The LORD is with you, while ye be with him; and if ye seek him, he will be found of you; but if ye forsake him, he will forsake you.
003- Now for a long season Israel hath been without the true God, and without a teaching priest, and without law.
004- But when they in their trouble did turn unto the LORD God of Israel, and sought him, he was found of them.
005- And in those times there was no peace to him that went out, nor to him that came in, but great vexations were upon all the inhabitants of the countries.
006- And nation was destroyed of nation, and city of city: for God did vex them with all adversity.
007- Be ye strong therefore, and let not your hands be weak: for your work shall be rewarded.
008- And when Asa heard these words, and the prophecy of Oded the prophet, he took courage, and put away the abominable idols out of all the land of Judah and Benjamin, and out of the cities which he had taken from mount Ephraim, and renewed the altar of the LORD, that was before the porch of the LORD.
009- And he gathered all Judah and Benjamin, and the strangers with them out of Ephraim and Manasseh, and out of Simeon: for they fell to him out of Israel in abundance, when they saw that the LORD his God was with him.
010- So they gathered themselves together at Jerusalem in the third month, in the fifteenth year of the reign of Asa.
011- And they offered unto the LORD the same time, of the spoil which they had brought, seven hundred oxen and seven thousand sheep.
012- And they entered into a covenant to seek the LORD God of their fathers with all their heart and with all their soul;
013- That whosoever would not seek the LORD God of Israel should be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.
014- And they sware unto the LORD with a loud voice, and with shouting, and with trumpets, and with cornets.
015- And all Judah rejoiced at the oath: for they had sworn with all their heart, and sought him with their whole desire; and he was found of them: and the LORD gave them rest round about.
016- And also concerning Maachah the mother of Asa the king, he removed her from being queen, because she had made an idol in a grove: and Asa cut down her idol, and stamped it, and burnt it at the brook Kidron.
017- But the high places were not taken away out of Israel: nevertheless the heart of Asa was perfect all his days.
018- And he brought into the house of God the things that his father had dedicated, and that he himself had dedicated, silver, and gold, and vessels.
019- And there was no more war unto the five and thirtieth year of the reign of Asa.
44 14 2 Chronicles 016 Asa
001- In the six and thirtieth year of the reign of Asa Baasha king of Israel came up against Judah, and built Ramah, to the intent that he might let none go out or come in to Asa king of Judah.
002- Then Asa brought out silver and gold out of the treasures of the house of the LORD and of the king's house, and sent to Benhadad king of Syria, that dwelt at Damascus, saying,
003- There is a league between me and thee, as there was between my father and thy father: behold, I have sent thee silver and gold; go, break thy league with Baasha king of Israel, that he may depart from me.
004- And Benhadad hearkened unto king Asa, and sent the captains of his armies against the cities of Israel; and they smote Ijon, and Dan, and Abelmaim, and all the store cities of Naphtali.
005- And it came to pass, when Baasha heard it, that he left off building of Ramah, and let his work cease.
006- Then Asa the king took all Judah; and they carried away the stones of Ramah, and the timber thereof, wherewith Baasha was building; and he built therewith Geba and Mizpah.
007- And at that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah, and said unto him, Because thou hast relied on the king of Syria, and not relied on the LORD thy God, therefore is the host of the king of Syria escaped out of thine hand.
008- Were not the Ethiopians and the Lubims a huge host, with very many chariots and horsemen? yet, because thou didst rely on the LORD, he delivered them into thine hand.
009- For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.
010- Then Asa was wroth with the seer, and put him in a prison house; for he was in a rage with him because of this thing. And Asa oppressed some of the people the same time.
011- And, behold, the acts of Asa, first and last, lo, they are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.
012- And Asa in the thirty and ninth year of his reign was diseased in his feet, until his disease was exceeding great: yet in his disease he sought not to the LORD, but to the physicians.
013- And Asa slept with his fathers, and died in the one and fortieth year of his reign.
014- And they buried him in his own sepulchres, which he had made for himself in the city of David, and laid him in the bed which was filled with sweet odorous and divers kinds of spices prepared by the apothecaries' art: and they made a very great burning for him.
45 14 2 Chronicles 017 Asa
001- And Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his stead, and strengthened himself against Israel.
002- And he placed forces in all the fenced cities of Judah, and set garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim, which Asa his father had taken.
003- And the LORD was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the first ways of his father David, and sought not unto Baalim;
004- But sought to the Lord God of his father, and walked in his commandments, and not after the doings of Israel.
005- Therefore the LORD stablished the kingdom in his hand; and all Judah brought to Jehoshaphat presents; and he had riches and honor in abundance.
006- And his heart was lifted up in the ways of the LORD: moreover he took away the high places and groves out of Judah.
007- Also in the third year of his reign he sent to his princes, even to Benhail, and to Obadiah, and to Zechariah, and to Nethaneel, and to Michaiah, to teach in the cities of Judah.
008- And with them he sent Levites, even Shemaiah, and Nethaniah, and Zebadiah, and Asahel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehonathan, and Adonijah, and Tobijah, and Tobadonijah, Levites; and with them Elishama and Jehoram, priests.
009- And they taught in Judah, and had the book of the law of the LORD with them, and went about throughout all the cities of Judah, and taught the people.
010- And the fear of the LORD fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were round about Judah, so that they made no war against Jehoshaphat.
011- Also some of the Philistines brought Jehoshaphat presents, and tribute silver; and the Arabians brought him flocks, seven thousand and seven hundred rams, and seven thousand and seven hundred he goats.
012- And Jehoshaphat waxed great exceedingly; and he built in Judah castles, and cities of store.
013- And he had much business in the cities of Judah: and the men of war, mighty men of valor, were in Jerusalem.
014- And these are the numbers of them according to the house of their fathers: Of Judah, the captains of thousands; Adnah the chief, and with him mighty men of valor three hundred thousand.
015- And next to him was Jehohanan the captain, and with him two hundred and fourscore thousand.
016- And next him was Amasiah the son of Zichri, who willingly offered himself unto the LORD; and with him two hundred thousand mighty men of valor.
017- And of Benjamin; Eliada a mighty man of valor, and with him armed men with bow and shield two hundred thousand.
018- And next him was Jehozabad, and with him an hundred and fourscore thousand ready prepared for the war.
019- These waited on the king, beside those whom the king put in the fenced cities throughout all Judah.
46 14 2 Chronicles 020 Asa
001- It came to pass after this also, that the children of Moab, and the children of Ammon, and with them other beside the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to battle.
002- Then there came some that told Jehoshaphat, saying, There cometh a great multitude against thee from beyond the sea on this side Syria; and, behold, they be in Hazazontamar, which is Engedi.
003- And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the LORD, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.
004- And Judah gathered themselves together, to ask help of the LORD: even out of all the cities of Judah they came to seek the LORD.
005- And Jehoshaphat stood in the congregation of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the LORD, before the new court,
006- And said, O LORD God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven? and rulest not thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? and in thine hand is there not power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee?
007- Art not thou our God, who didst drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy friend for ever?
008- And they dwelt therein, and have built thee a sanctuary therein for thy name, saying,
009- If, when evil cometh upon us, as the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in thy presence, (for thy name is in this house,) and cry unto thee in our affliction, then thou wilt hear and help.
010- And now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moab and mount Seir, whom thou wouldest not let Israel invade, when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them, and destroyed them not;
011- Behold, I say, how they reward us, to come to cast us out of thy possession, which thou hast given us to inherit.
012- O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee.
013- And all Judah stood before the LORD, with their little ones, their wives, and their children.
014- Then upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, came the Spirit of the LORD in the midst of the congregation;
015- And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God's.
016- To morrow go ye down against them: behold, they come up by the cliff of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel.
017- Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you.
018- And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the LORD, worshipping the LORD.
019- And the Levites, of the children of the Kohathites, and of the children of the Korhites, stood up to praise the LORD God of Israel with a loud voice on high.
020- And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
021- And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy endureth for ever.
022- And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.
023- For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of mount Seir, utterly to slay and destroy them: and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, every one helped to destroy another.
024- And when Judah came toward the watch tower in the wilderness, they looked unto the multitude, and, behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and none escaped.
025- And when Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away the spoil of them, they found among them in abundance both riches with the dead bodies, and precious jewels, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away: and they were three days in gathering of the spoil, it was so much.
026- And on the fourth day they assembled themselves in the valley of Berachah; for there they blessed the LORD: therefore the name of the same place was called, The valley of Berachah, unto this day.
027- Then they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, and Jehoshaphat in the forefront of them, to go again to Jerusalem with joy; for the LORD had made them to rejoice over their enemies.
028- And they came to Jerusalem with psalteries and harps and trumpets unto the house of the LORD.
029- And the fear of God was on all the kingdoms of those countries, when they had heard that the LORD fought against the enemies of Israel.
030- So the realm of Jehoshaphat was quiet: for his God gave him rest round about.
031- And Jehoshaphat reigned over Judah: he was thirty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.
032- And he walked in the way of Asa his father, and departed not from it, doing that which was right in the sight of the LORD.
033- Howbeit the high places were not taken away: for as yet the people had not prepared their hearts unto the God of their fathers.
034- Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of Jehu the son of Hanani, who is mentioned in the book of the kings of Israel.
035- And after this did Jehoshaphat king of Judah join himself with Ahaziah king of Israel, who did very wickedly:
036- And he joined himself with him to make ships to go to Tarshish: and they made the ships in Eziongaber.
037- Then Eliezer the son of Dodavah of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, Because thou hast joined thyself with Ahaziah, the LORD hath broken thy works. And the ships were broken, that they were not able to go to Tarshish.
47 14 2 Chronicles 021 Asa
001- Now Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David. And Jehoram his son reigned in his stead.
002- And he had brethren the sons of Jehoshaphat, Azariah, and Jehiel, and Zechariah, and Azariah, and Michael, and Shephatiah: all these were the sons of Jehoshaphat king of Israel.
003- And their father gave them great gifts of silver, and of gold, and of precious things, with fenced cities in Judah: but the kingdom gave he to Jehoram; because he was the firstborn.
004- Now when Jehoram was risen up to the kingdom of his father, he strengthened himself, and slew all his brethren with the sword, and divers also of the princes of Israel.
005- Jehoram was thirty and two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.
006- And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, like as did the house of Ahab: for he had the daughter of Ahab to wife: and he wrought that which was evil in the eyes of the LORD.
007- Howbeit the LORD would not destroy the house of David, because of the covenant that he had made with David, and as he promised to give a light to him and to his sons for ever.
008- In his days the Edomites revolted from under the dominion of Judah, and made themselves a king.
009- Then Jehoram went forth with his princes, and all his chariots with him: and he rose up by night, and smote the Edomites which compassed him in, and the captains of the chariots.
010- So the Edomites revolted from under the hand of Judah unto this day. The same time also did Libnah revolt from under his hand; because he had forsaken the LORD God of his fathers.
011- Moreover he made high places in the mountains of Judah and caused the inhabitants of Jerusalem to commit fornication, and compelled Judah thereto.
012- And there came a writing to him from Elijah the prophet, saying, Thus saith the LORD God of David thy father, Because thou hast not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat thy father, nor in the ways of Asa king of Judah,
013- But hast walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and hast made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to go a whoring, like to the whoredoms of the house of Ahab, and also hast slain thy brethren of thy father's house, which were better than thyself:
014- Behold, with a great plague will the LORD smite thy people, and thy children, and thy wives, and all thy goods:
015- And thou shalt have great sickness by disease of thy bowels, until thy bowels fall out by reason of the sickness day by day.
016- Moreover the LORD stirred up against Jehoram the spirit of the Philistines, and of the Arabians, that were near the Ethiopians:
017- And they came up into Judah, and brake into it, and carried away all the substance that was found in the king's house, and his sons also, and his wives; so that there was never a son left him, save Jehoahaz, the youngest of his sons.
018- And after all this the LORD smote him in his bowels with an incurable disease.
019- And it came to pass, that in process of time, after the end of two years, his bowels fell out by reason of his sickness: so he died of sore diseases. And his people made no burning for him, like the burning of his fathers.
020- Thirty and two years old was he when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years, and departed without being desired. Howbeit they buried him in the city of David, but not in the sepulchres of the kings.
93 24 Jeremiah 041 Asa
001- Now it came to pass in the seventh month, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah the son of Elishama, of the seed royal, and the princes of the king, even ten men with him, came unto Gedaliah the son of Ahikam to Mizpah; and there they did eat bread together in Mizpah.
002- Then arose Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and the ten men that were with him, and smote Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan with the sword, and slew him, whom the king of Babylon had made governor over the land.
003- Ishmael also slew all the Jews that were with him, even with Gedaliah, at Mizpah, and the Chaldeans that were found there, and the men of war.
004- And it came to pass the second day after he had slain Gedaliah, and no man knew it,
005- That there came certain from Shechem, from Shiloh, and from Samaria, even fourscore men, having their beards shaven, and their clothes rent, and having cut themselves, with offerings and incense in their hand, to bring them to the house of the LORD.
006- And Ishmael the son of Nethaniah went forth from Mizpah to meet them, weeping all along as he went: and it came to pass, as he met them, he said unto them, Come to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam.
007- And it was so, when they came into the midst of the city, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah slew them, and cast them into the midst of the pit, he, and the men that were with him.
008- But ten men were found among them that said unto Ishmael, Slay us not: for we have treasures in the field, of wheat, and of barley, and of oil, and of honey. So he forbare, and slew them not among their brethren.
009- Now the pit wherein Ishmael had cast all the dead bodies of the men, whom he had slain because of Gedaliah, was it which Asa the king had made for fear of Baasha king of Israel: and Ishmael the son of Nethaniah filled it with them that were slain.
010- Then Ishmael carried away captive all the residue of the people that were in Mizpah, even the king's daughters, and all the people that remained in Mizpah, whom Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had committed to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam: and Ishmael the son of Nethaniah carried them away captive, and departed to go over to the Ammonites.
011- But when Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, heard of all the evil that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had done,
012- Then they took all the men, and went to fight with Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and found him by the great waters that are in Gibeon.
013- Now it came to pass, that when all the people which were with Ishmael saw Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, then they were glad.
014- So all the people that Ishmael had carried away captive from Mizpah cast about and returned, and went unto Johanan the son of Kareah.
015- But Ishmael the son of Nethaniah escaped from Johanan with eight men, and went to the Ammonites.
016- Then took Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, all the remnant of the people whom he had recovered from Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, from Mizpah, after that he had slain Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, even mighty men of war, and the women, and the children, and the eunuchs, whom he had brought again from Gibeon:
017- And they departed, and dwelt in the habitation of Chimham, which is by Bethlehem, to go to enter into Egypt,
018- Because of the Chaldeans: for they were afraid of them, because Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had slain Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, whom the king of Babylon made governor in the land.
109 40 Matthew 001 Asa
001- The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
002- Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat Judas and his brethren;
003- And Judas begat Phares and Zara of Thamar; and Phares begat Esrom; and Esrom begat Aram;
004- And Aram begat Aminadab; and Aminadab begat Naasson; and Naasson begat Salmon;
005- And Salmon begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse;
006- And Jesse begat David the king; and David the king begat Solomon of her that had been the wife of Urias;
007- And Solomon begat Roboam; and Roboam begat Abia; and Abia begat Asa;
008- And Asa begat Josaphat; and Josaphat begat Joram; and Joram begat Ozias;
009- And Ozias begat Joatham; and Joatham begat Achaz; and Achaz begat Ezekias;
010- And Ezekias begat Manasses; and Manasses begat Amon; and Amon begat Josias;
011- And Josias begat Jechonias and his brethren, about the time they were carried away to Babylon:
012- And after they were brought to Babylon, Jechonias begat Salathiel; and Salathiel begat Zorobabel;
013- And Zorobabel begat Abiud; and Abiud begat Eliakim; and Eliakim begat Azor;
014- And Azor begat Sadoc; and Sadoc begat Achim; and Achim begat Eliud;
015- And Eliud begat Eleazar; and Eleazar begat Matthan; and Matthan begat Jacob;
016- And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.
017- So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations.
018- Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
019- Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily.
020- But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
021- And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
022- Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,
023- Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
024- Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:
025- And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.
